Choosing flooring material is critical for construction projects, especially multi-story buildings or high-level installations. One option recently gaining significant attention is cementitious liquid floor screed, offered by specialists like Clockwork Screed. But can this versatile material be used effectively on the first, second floors, and even high levels?

Clockwork Screed's cementitious liquid floor screed offers countless benefits that make it suitable for various applications. With the ability to be pumped to lengths up to 100 metres from their truck, it's a practical solution for projects of different scales. However, before delving into its versatility, it's essential to ensure that the floor it will be installed on is solid and fit for purpose.

With the ability to be pumped up to 100 meters from the specialist mixing truck, the cementitious liquid floor screed offers significant practical advantages. This feature greatly enhances efficiency and convenience during construction, particularly for projects involving first-floor levels and above. By eliminating the laborious and time-consuming manual transportation of screed, pumping technology saves considerable time and labour. The extended reach provided by the pumping mechanism ensures access to areas that may be difficult to reach otherwise, such as upper levels of multi-story buildings. This capability also promotes a more uniform application, reducing variations in thickness and ensuring a smoother, more level surface than traditional pouring methods.

One notable advantage is the cleanliness and efficiency of the installation process. The pumping technology eliminates the need for manual transportation of screed, significantly reducing mess and disruption on the construction site. Unlike traditional methods that involve heavy bags of screed being transported and poured manually, the pumping process is precise and controlled, resulting in minimal spillage and waste. This cleanliness enhances the overall work environment and reduces the need for extensive clean-up afterwards, saving both time and resources.

The streamlined nature of the pumping process contributes to a more organised and efficient workflow. With screed being delivered directly to the desired location, there is less congestion and movement of materials around the site, leading to smoother operations and fewer opportunities for accidents or errors.

One of the standout advantages of cementitious liquid floor screed is its adaptability. Unlike calcium sulphate screeds, which have limitations on where they can be used, cementitious options can be employed in any area of a project, including outdoor spaces and areas exposed to wet conditions. This versatility opens up a wide range of possibilities for its application on various floors and levels within a building.

Clockwork Screed's product boasts impressive installation rates, with their team capable of covering 1000m² a day. This helps reduce project timelines and contributes to cost savings—a crucial factor in today's competitive construction industry.

The ability to install up to 100m² without joints, particularly when underfloor heating is fitted, further enhances its appeal. For areas without underfloor heating, this can be extended to 150m². Such seamless installation options not only contribute to a sleek finish but also minimise potential weak points in the flooring system.

One of the most significant advantages of cementitious liquid floor screed is its rapid drying time. Clockwork Screed's product allows footfall within 24 to 48 hours, significantly accelerating the completion of projects compared to alternatives such as anhydrite screeds, which can take months to reach acceptable moisture levels for floor finishes.

The compatibility with various floor finishes at higher moisture levels—2.5%CM compared to the 0.5%CM required for anhydrite screeds—further streamlines the construction process. This means clients can apply floor finishes much sooner, improving overall project efficiency.

Clockwork Screed's cementitious screeds are also ideal for underfloor heating systems. With excellent thermal conductivity, these screeds ensure efficient heat transfer, enhancing the heating system's performance while optimising energy usage. The self-compacting nature of the material eliminates the risk of voids around pipework. At the same time, its strength allows for thinner installations, saving depth that can be utilised for additional insulation—an environmentally friendly solution that reduces running costs.

Building Regulation Changes Regarding Insulation in Roofs: Why Clockwork Screed's Poured Insulation is an Ideal Choice
6 December 2024
When it comes to building or renovating a property, one of the most important considerations is insulation. Effective insulation can make a significant difference in energy efficiency, comfort, and the overall cost of maintaining a building. Here’s why poured insulation, such as the solutions offered by Clockwork Screed, is a smart choice for property owners, builders, and contractors. Poured insulation is a liquid material that is poured directly onto the subfloor to create a continuous thermal layer. Unlike traditional insulation boards, which can be cumbersome to install and often leave gaps, poured insulation fills every space evenly, ensuring there are no cold spots or areas where heat can escape. One of the primary advantages of poured insulation is its ability to enhance energy efficiency. By providing a seamless thermal barrier, it helps retain heat in the winter and keeps the building cool in the summer. This means that heating and cooling systems don’t have to work as hard, resulting in lower energy bills and reduced energy consumption.
