Liquid screed vs traditional

The liquid screed vs traditional screed debate begins with comparing the process involved with each. While both are used to create smooth floors ready for the application of a top floor covering, the processes of laying liquid vs traditional screed are quite different.

Liquid screed is ready-mixed, pumped into the room and poured onto the floor where it is needed, whereas traditional screed is shovelled onto site and then levelled using a screeding bar or float.

What are the benefits of liquid screed

The benefits of liquid screed make flooring projects easier and therefore quicker to complete.

• Once poured, liquid screed finds its own level so doesn’t require manual levelling. This reduces time and labour costs

• Liquid floor screed dries very quickly, allowing footfall usually within 48 hours

• The exceptional strength of liquid floor screed allows it to be laid as thinly as 25mm

• The strength and ease of coverage of liquid floor screed makes it ideal for underfloor heating systems

• Liquid floor screed is durable with a reduced risk of cracking, and shrinkage resistant.

Step-by-step screed installation

Clockwork Screed deliver liquid floor screed to site in one of our unique mobile screed plants in which we batch-produce exactly the amount of liquid screed you need.

The liquid screed is then pumped from the mobile screed plant into the room where it is to be used. This results in zero waste.

Once pumped, the liquid screed self-levels, providing full coverage across the floor. Within 48 hours the liquid screed can usually be walked upon, and the rest of the project can continue.

Cost of liquid screed

While the unit cost of liquid screed may be slightly higher than traditional alternatives, there are many cost savings that balance this out.

Because liquid screed dries more quickly, it reduces downtime on a project which minimises costs.

As previously mentioned, not having to employ contractors to level the liquid screed reduces the labour cost of the flooring project.

For users, when liquid screed is used for underfloor heating systems it reduces energy costs because of its superior thermal conductivity.
